Gurez, Oct 26 (KNO): A government high school with more than a hundred students on roll, is awaiting repair of its building which was damaged in 2018 snowfall at Buglinder a remote village of Tulail in Gurez area of north Kashmir's Bandipora district.
The high school, where the authorities have placed another middle school, is presently functioning from a single complex. However, the deteriorating condition of the building is causing trouble for the students of both middle as well as high school.
"Sadly, in 2018 when the building was handed over to the school management by the construction agency, immediately after that, the building was engulfed in snowfall and was damaged. Three years later, even the debris has not been removed yet,” locals told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).
Locals said that the school is presently having an enrolment of more than one hundred students.
"I think our village is the most remote area and the government is not paying attention to the education sector here. If you look, you will find many other school buildings here in the same state," Mohammad Jamal (56), a local said.
"We have informed the management about the condition of the building many times but nothing has happened yet. Our children continue to suffer, " he said.
Mushtaq Gurezi, another local, said that the administration did not even consider it appropriate to remove the debris of the building.
Meanwhile, locals urged the administration to repair the building at the earliest so that the students could concentrate on their studies.
Officials at Zonal Education Office (ZEO) Gurez however assured that they will look into the matter—(KNO)
